Religious Instruction

West End State School embraces a diverse range of cultural, religious and non‑religious beliefs. The school respects the backgrounds and beliefs of all students and staff and does not promote, nor be perceived as promoting, any particular belief system over another.

Religious Instruction is provided in accordance with Chapter 5 of the Education (General Provisions) Act 2006 and Part 5 of the Education (General Provisions) Regulation 2017.

Students in Years 3 to 6 have the opportunity to attend Religious Instruction classes each Thursday afternoon, based on information provided in WESS Enrolment Forms. Participation in Religious Instruction is not compulsory.

Religious Instruction

Classes currently include:

  • Baha’i

  • Buddhism

  • Hinduism

  • Islam

  • Orthodox/Greek Orthodox

  • Protestant (Christian)

  • Roman Catholic

Class times:

  • Years 3 & 4: 2:20–2:50pm

  • Years 5 & 6: 1:45–2:15pm

No Nominated Religion / Other Instruction

West End State School is proud of its multicultural community and values tolerance, respect and understanding. Families who have not nominated a religion on their enrolment and permission forms, but who wish their child to participate in learning about world religions, are encouraged to contact the school to discuss available options.

Students who do not attend Religious Instruction participate in Other Instruction, which involves supervised, meaningful activities such as independent reading, personal research, assignments or revision of class work. Other Instruction occurs at the same time as Religious Instruction in a separate, supervised location.​​
