A computerised library and Resource Centre helps in the development of a positive attitude to reading, comprehension, critical thinking skills and research skills. Children may borrow library resources to support research and a love of reading. Children may borrow picture books, fiction books and non-fiction books from the library and in addition, children in Prep to Year 3 borrow their home readers weekly during library lessons. Families can also join the library scheme and borrow resources to support their child’s enjoyment of literature.
The library is open during most lunch breaks for quiet reading, board games, and quiet collaborative indoor play such as the wooden train set construction or puzzles. Children may borrow books during their library lesson, during lunch breaks or before school after 8.20am.
The library computers are available for student use at lunchtime. First lunch is school work only and second lunch is for schoolwork and approved educational programs and games e.g. Scratch. The library staff are aware that a balanced life is important so they do monitor students’ use of the computers and encourage them outside to play if they have a tendency to overuse them at lunchtimes.
WESS has moved to a new web based library management system called Concord Infiniti.
Students can now access the library catalogue (OPAC) using their username and the library password. This can be accessed from any computer at any time (as it is a web based system). From home they can access the website by using the shortcut on the school's website home page or they can use this link to the
library website.
They type in their school username (the EQ one) and the library password.
From school - every computer has an Infiniti shortcut on the desktop
